Community Connections
Informal Education

To support the expansion of the Makor outreach program to Jews in their twenties and thirties, a program where groups of young Jews met for monthly meetings and a potluck Shabbat dinner and discussion.

Makor sought to build pluralistic, grassroots, Shabbat-centered communities rooted in learning, spiritual seeking, caring, celebrating and creating. Sponsored Shabbat dinners occurred on the last Friday night of each month for approximately 150 people in apartments and homes throughout Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley.

Makor also sponsored annual retreats at the Brandeis-Bardin Institute, hikes, and Jews arts evenings. With the help of a Covenant Foundation grant, Makor built partnerships with young people in Berkeley, Santa Barbara, Chicago and Baltimore.

Makor continues to function in Chicago, today.
